The congost de Mont-rebei

What about the "congost de Mont-rebei" that is no longer known?

In our experience, most people who visit our territory, do so with the intention of enjoying this wonder of nature that we have 45 minutes from Tremp. This is what we find when we ask our guests what they intend to do in the Pallars. We, of course, apart from praising the "congost de Mont-rebei", give them closer and less crowded alternatives. Nevertheless, the "congost de Mont-rebei" is a place that must be visited once in a lifetime, at least.

The "congost de Mont-rebei" is a natural area of about 600 hectares, included in the area of natural interest of Montsec. It is formed by the river Noguera Ribagorçana as it passes through the Montsec mountain range, thus separating the Montsec d'Ares from the Montsec d'Estall. A very important fact is that it is the only large gorge in Catalonia that remains virgin. The walls of the gorge climb up to 500 meters above the water, being the narrowest part of only 20 meters wide.

On foot or by water?

To travel through the gorge we can do so using two elements: land and water.
On foot, we travel a distance of 10 km back and forth if we decide to make the short route. If, on the other hand, we are in good physical condition, we can opt for the long route of about 20 km between going and returning, which is the one between the Masieta car park and the Pertusa hermitage. In addition, we can pass on the other side, that of Aragon, and go up the footbridges of Montfalcó, a spectacular vertical route.
By water, we can tour the gorge by kayak or katamaran, a completely different perspective of Mont-rebei. You can rent a kayak all day and tour the area freely to make stops and enjoy this unique place.
